History
BEC Darwin is one of 130 Business Enterprise Centres operating throughout Australia, all of which deliver community based business services to the communities they serve.
It is a not for profit, industry based private sector organisation, which provides free business training, advice and referrals to providers of practical advice.
Mission
"To foster the establishment and development of successful new businesses in the Northern Territory, through the provision of business advice, referrals and training, especially to those people starting or newly started in business."
BEC's services are specifically targeted at those intending to start a new business or those just started in business. It aims to meld private and public sector interests to provide business services at the community level. It gives independent unbiased advice, seeks answers and fosters new enterprises.
In this way BEC endeavours to enhance the economic development of the Northern Territory.
Staff
Manager - Jack Hughes
Jack is a long time Territorian who has held positions in both the Commonwealth and Northern Territory Governments and who has previously owned and managed his own business for some 7 years.
He has been Manager of BEC since September 2000 and in that time has delivered various training programs, provided advice/assistance and sourced information for many existing and intending business operators.
Business Advisor Northern Region NT - Geoff Pearce
Geoff is a long term Territorian who worked in the Banking Industry for over 30 years. For the last 10 years he has worked in sales administration, finance and body corporate management.
He is the newest member of the BEC team, commencing work for us in August 2008, and is able to provide information and advice on all issues that are important to small business owners.
Administration Officer - Donna Linklater
Donna has considerable experience in office administration with extensive exposure to accounts management following a lengthy career in the automotive industry.
Donna has a background in small business in that she also assists her partner in the management of the family small business.
Administrative Assistant – Joy Small
Joy has had 20 years experience as an Administrative Assistant both in the Commonwealth, Department of Finance and the Department of Health and Community Services with the Northern Territory Government.
