02-Jun-2014The federal Budget was announced only recently and it was pleasing to see that the Small Business Advisory Services (SBAS) program has received just under $6 million funding for 2014/2015. SBAS is funded by the Federal Government to assist small businesses to maximize their growth potential, prosperity and sustainability through enhanced access to information and advice on issues important to establishing, sustaining and/or growing businesses.
The budget papers also contained provision to carry the program on through the forward estimates period up to 2017/2018. This is great news for small businesses looking for assistance.
BEC Darwin was fortunate to win SBAS funding in 2013 to deliver its Darwin Tradies - All Systems Go and the Alice Springs Business Improvement program over 2013 and 2014.
SBAS funding is usually released through a competitive bid process and BEC Darwin will be keen to participate in that process sometime during the middle of this year hopefully.
This month saw the delivery of the popular Digital Enterprise Workshops designed to assist businesses, local community institutions and not for profits improve their online presence as the roll out of high speed broadband gains momentum across the country.
I know that the green fibre cable being installed by NBN Co has passed many properties, especially in the Darwin northern suburbs. However, I have also heard some disturbing stories about delays and no shows when it comes to having a contractor actually turn up to connect the service to residences.
Has anyone out there had the service connected and prepared to tell us what the experience was like?
