What are my entitlements?
Superannuation
Some independent contractors are entitled to superannuation. If you aren't covered by employee contributions, you may choose to arrange your own super contributions.
Leave and redundancy
Unlike employees, independent contractors are not entitled to conditions such as annual leave, sick leave and redundancy entitlements unless these are specified in the contract. You will also need to negotiate your fees with your hirer.
Occupational Health & Safety laws
As an independent contractor, you are entitled to a safe and healthy workplace and are required to comply with the duties set out in the Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) Act for your state or territory.
Workers compensation insurance
As an independent contractor, you may not be entitled to compensation unless you have arranged your own accident protection insurance.
